If the TDS of your source water is more than 500 PPM and if water contains dissolved solids like fluoride, arsenic, lead etc, you require an RO System of filtration. Its a good idea to get your water tested in a lab or by a qualified technician . Depending on the water test report, if water contains fluoride, arsenic, lead more than suggested range, you have to go for RO water purifier.
Reverse osmosis is used in situations where all particles including dissolved substance must be stripped from the water. Some people prefer RO water from their refrigerator or tap, especially if they’re on ground water supply.

Suspended solids and solutes of high molecular weight are retained, while water and low molecular weight solutes pass through the membrane.
